Why would I recommend this book? / Why is it outstanding?
Pride and Prejudice is a really outstanding book. I would recommend it to someone because it's an interesting, dramatic and romantic story.

Pride & Prejudice is a story about 5 sisters growing up in a time very different than ours. It was really interesting reading about what it was like back then. Something that I thought was interesting about the book was how they got married back then. People did not really date, they met people, they got to know for a short amount of time then the boy had to ask the girl's dad if it was okay to marry their daughter. If it was not okay, then they could not marry them. Another thing I thought was interesting was when they go on a trip to visit someone they would stay for a long time. They would stay for a month, maybe two months. Depending on how far away it is. It was also interesting to read about how running off with someone when your not married is so bad. I was confused at first because all the characters were so upset and I did not understand why. "I have just had a letter form Jane, with such dreadful news. It cannot be concealed from anyone. My youngest sister has left her friends- has eloped;- has thrown herself into the power of - Mr. Wickham." (Elizabeth, Austen 263). The fact that it was set along time ago makes it more interesting to read.

This book is very dramatic. Because it's full of romances it's also full of heartbreaks. It has people being rejected like Elizabeth rejecting Mr. Collins and Mr. Darcy. Being rejected is not the only dramatic part of the story. One of the most dramatic parts of the book is: When Lydia ran off with Mr. Wickham. The Bennets did not want anyone to know but the neighbors all knew in a few days. "This most unfortunate affair will be talked of." (Mary, Austen 274). Their whole family was ashamed of what happened. Another dramatic part of the book is when Caroline Bingley was trying to break Jane and Mr. Bingley up. When Jane was visiting Mr. Bingleys house Caroline would be really nice to her but when she was not in the room she would say bad things about her and Elizabeth. "Her hair, so untidy, so blowsy!" (Caroline, Austen 36). Pride & Prejudice is filled with exiting drama, which makes the book more interesting.

Pride & Prejudice is full of romance. There are three main couples in the book are: Elizabeth & Mr. Darcy, Jane & Mr. Bingley and Lydia & Mr. Wickham. Elizabeth and Mr. Darcy relationship is interesting because they hate each other at first. Jane and Mr. Bingley's realationship is interesting because people are trying to break them up. Another interesting thing is both Elizabeth and Jane marry people who are richer then them. Lydia and Mr. Wickhams relationship is interesting because they run off and no one knows where they are or if they will get married. Love is one of the main themes of the book. I would recommend it to anyone who likes love stories.

Pride & Predjudice is a great book that I would recommend to anyone who likes interesting, dramatic and romantic stories.

Why is this book on the Outstanding Books for the College Bound list?

Pride & Prejudice is a classic love story, set in the eighteenth century. There are many reasons it should be on the Outstanding books for the College Bound list, some of them are themes and symbolism. Some of themes are Love and Class. The Symbol is Mr. Darcy's house.

Class is an important theme of the book. The main characters did not know they liked each other until the end of the book because their social classes. Mr. Darcy is rich and Elizabeth is middle class. That explains why the book is called Pride & Prejudice. Elizabeth is of Prejudiced because she thinks she will never like Mr. Darcy because he is rich and mean. Mr. Darcy is of Proud because he thinks he is to good for Elizabeth because he is rich. Social class is very important to people in that time. Usually people did not marry people who were in a different social class. Mrs. Bennet was really shocked when Elizabeth told her that she was marrying Mr. Darcy because he was from a different social class. "Good gracious! Lord bless me! Only think! Dear me! Mr. Darcy! Who would have thought it! And is it really true! Oh! My sweetest Lizzy! How rich and great you will be!" (Mrs. Bennet, Austen 357). Social class is an important part of Pride & Prejudice that effects all the characters.

Love is one of Pride & Prejudice's biggest themes. The story has people fall in love who were not supposed to because of their social classes. It showed that not everyone marries the person they love. Elizabeth's Cousin: Mr. Collins is unintelligent and annoying. Elizabeth's friend Charlotte marries him, even though she does not love him. The main reason she marries him is for his money. Love is an important part of the book. Love is demonstrated in different ways throughout the book.

There is only one symbol in Pride & Prejudice. The symbol is Mr. Darcy's house. His House is named Pemberley. It is a beautiful house with amazing scenery outside. The Grounds are full of forests, ponds, creeks and a bridge. Elizabeth and her aunt and uncle go with her to visit that house and yard. They did not expect Mr. Darcy to be there. When she went there she loved the yard and all the beautiful forests. At the same time she starts to like Mr. Darcy. "...and in front, a stream of some natural importance was swelled into greater, but without any artificial appearence."(Austen 235). Mr. Darcy has natural importance without any artificial appearence. Mr. Darcy's symbolizes her growing affection for him. Mr. Darcy does come to Pemberley even though he's not expected. Elizabeth first see's him when she is standing on a bridge, which symbolizes the bridge of their love.
